How they voted: Badgers in 2014 AP football poll (Week 1)
Over the years I have tracked week to week how the Associated Press top 25 voters have placed Wisconsin. I've gotten good feedback on this and people wanted to see it continue, so, despite the loss of the website Pollspeak (which made doing this much easier), I am going to try and continue this weekly look.
Things to keep in mind:
- This is a poll, thus there will sometimes be a wide range of rankings. And this is one reason I do this. Others are accountability and a way to track a voter's history over the weeks, which can be quite interesting at times.
- No, the AP poll has no bearing on the college football playoff. It also had no bearing on BCS bowl games in the past (but the college poll, which really has some headscratching votes as coaches can vote for their own team - I'm looking at you Arkansas - did). But it provides a national opinion on Wisconsin, the Big Ten and the college football landscape.
So with that out of the way, here's the results from the first poll. Regular readers of this might be surprised to see the two voters who have the Badgers at No. 5, easily the highest ranknig given to Wisconsin, which received just four top-10 votes. And only one other person had the Badgers in single digits.
Meanwhile, four voters didn't put Wisconsin on their ballot at all.
As you can see, most of the votes for Wisconsn fell between 12 and 15. Of course, with the Badgers playing LSU in the Aug. 30 opener, you know there will be a wide fluctuation in the Badgers' rankngs from voters win or lose.
OK, here's the complete list from the preseason poll:
