How the Angels won 08/26: Shoemaker stellar in shutdown of Marlins

How the Angels won: After four innings, Mike Trout had three hits, one RBI, 10 total bases and two scored runs. He was having himself a big night and was leading the charge for an Angels offense that was trying to get back on track following a rough Monday night.

Trout was aggressive on the basepaths, going first to third on an Albert Pujols single to shallow centerfield in the first inning which led to him scoring the game's first run. Pujols and Trout had six hits combined through four innings in the 8-2 win.

Dud of the game: Marlins starter and former Dodger Nathan Eovaldi lit up the radar gun Tuesday night at Angel Stadium, hitting triple digits at times, but that didn't stop the Angels from hitting him. Hard. Eovaldi lasted just 3.1 innings while giving up 10 hits and six earned runs.  

Key stat: 13. As in the number of wins for Shoemaker. That's tops in the big leagues for rookies.

What's next: The rubber match between the Angels and Marlins will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Angel Stadium. It will be Miami's Henderson Alvarez (10-5, 2.57 ERA) going against Hector Santiago (3-7, 3.38 ERA).
