House, Young help Houston rally past SMU
HOUSTON (AP) -- Danuel House scored a season-high 28 points and Joseph Young added 20, helping Houston continue its impressive start with a 78-67 win Wednesday night over SMU in the Cougars' Conference USA opener.
House, a freshman, was 7 of 11 from the field for the Cougars (12-2), who have won seven of their last eight home games against SMU. Young, the team's leading scorer at 17.4 points per game coming in, was 8 of 16.
Jalen Jones had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Mustangs (10-7, 0-2), and Nick Russell scored 14.
The Mustangs led 36-32 at halftime and 47-38 after Jones' tip-in with 15:14 to play. But Houston responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead, then went ahead for good on TaShawn Thomas' jumper with 5:48 left.
Leon Gibson had eight points and 14 rebounds for Houston, and Thomas pulled down 12 boards and scored six points.
