Hip hop legends Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie to perform at Heat-Hawks

ATLANTA, GA -- The Atlanta Hawks will host their first annual Hip Hop Night presented by Grady Health System when the Hawks take on the Miami Heat on April 12 (7:30 p.m. tipoff) at Philips Arena.

Hip Hop Legends Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie will perform throughout the evening as the Hawks pay homage to the hip hop culture through special performances and in-game entertainment. The first 10,000 fans to enter the arena will receive sunglasses courtesy of Philips.

"We are proud to honor the hip hop genre and it's multi-talented, multi-faceted culture. It is one of the many cultures reflected in Atlanta's diverse musical landscape and we are excited to celebrate that with two pioneers of hip hop in Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie," said Bob Williams, President of Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena.

The halftime show presented by Philips will consist of Biz Markie taking the court and performing songs from the late 1980s and early 90s including his smash hit "Just a Friend." Doug E. Fresh, also known as The World's Greatest Entertainer and The Human Beatbox, will close the evening with a postgame concert presented by Grady.

"I'm excited to be performing with Biz during the Hawks first ever Hip Hop Night. It's great that they're honoring hip hop music in Atlanta, where hip hop has always been a part of the culture there," Doug E. Fresh said.

"Doug and I are going to put on a great show. We are honored to be a part of what's going to be a very special night in the ATL," Biz Markie said.

During the game, Grady will also pay tribute to the care team that took care of Catie Scott, a Hawks staff member who was treated at Grady following a near fatal car accident, and is now a part of Grady’s current marketing campaign. Her story can be found here.
