Hernandez returns after Tommy John surgery

The 14-plus-month journey back from Tommy John surgery ended on Sunday for Diamondbacks reliever David Hernandez.

"My heart's racing -- just overwhelmed with excitement," Hernandez said before the D-backs series finale against the New York Mets.

Hernandez missed the entire 2014 season, during which he had of elbow soreness in spring training and eventually underwent surgery in late-March.

Hernandez pitched a scoreless 8th inning Sunday. He walked one and struck out one.
