Heat's Spoelstra named Coach of the Month in East

Miami's Erik Spoelstra was named the NBA's Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for February, it was announced Monday.

Spoelstra led the Heat to a league-best 9-1 record during February -- a team-record 26th consecutive winning month -- despite a franchise-low three home games.

Five of the Heat's nine wins were by double figures, including the last three by double digits.

Miami held opponents to below 50 percent shooting in each February game and under 40 percent four times.

It was the sixth time Spoelstra earned the monthly honor, and marked the 14th time a Heat coach had won the award.

Spoelstra recorded career coaching victory No. 300 in a win against Chicago on Feb. 23. He became the sixth-fastest head coach in NBA history to reach the milestone.

Miami (42-14) headed into Monday night's home game against Charlotte riding a seven-game winning streak and tied for the franchise's best record through the first 56 games.
