Heat forward Josh McRoberts likely done for season after knee surgery
MIAMI -- Forward Josh McRoberts is expected to miss the remainder of the season after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, the Miami Heat announced Tuesday.
The 45-minute procedure was performed by team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick on Monday.
The team has applied for a Disabled Player Exception because of McRoberts' injury, which would increase the value of a contract they could present to a free agent, such as recently waived forward Josh Smith.
If the Heat are granted the exception, they could offer a contract worth approximately $2.65 million instead of the projected $1.4 million veteran's minimum.
McRoberts appeared in 17 games in his first season with the Heat and averaged 4.2 points on 52.8 percent shooting, 2.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists in 17.4 minutes.
