Hawks will play regular-season game vs. Nets in London
Road trips are nothing new in the NBA, but not like this.
The Hawks will play a regular-season game against the Nets at The 02 in London on January 16, 2014 as part of the NBA Global Games London 2014. It will be the first time that the franchise has played an in-season game outside of North America.
"Playing in London will be a special experience for our players and coaches, and we are proud to represent Atlanta in front of an international audience," said Danny Ferry, the Hawks president of basketball operations/general manager.
This NBA Global Games will be the 12th time the league has played in London dating back to 1993, with the Hawks taking part in the first preseason games scheduled there on Oct. 30 and 31, 1993.
The last time the Hawks played internationally was in July 1988 when they traveled to the former Soviet Union.
Coupled with the Timberwolves-Spurs game on Dec. 4 in Mexico City, the upcoming season will be the first time the NBA has played multiple regular-season games outside of the United States and Canada.
