Guns Loaded fires a victory in turf feature at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Guns Loaded won the $75,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes by 2 ¼ lengths Sunday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Santiago Gonzalez, Guns Loaded ran 6 ½ furlongs on turf in 1:12.60 and paid $14.80, $6 and $3.20. The 5-year-old gelding had won an allowance race on dirt just eight days ago for trainer Doug O'Neill.
Rocket Heat returned $3.80 and $2.60, while Hunt was another head back in third and paid $2.80 to show.
The victory, worth $47,100, increased Guns Loaded's career earnings to $346,570, with seven wins in 25 starts. He is 2 of 5 on the track's turf course.
"He'll definitely get a breather now," O'Neill said. "He's done a lot in eight days, so he's deserving of a month off or so. What an honest, nice horse."
