CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Ryan Howard hit his first home run of spring training, an opposite-field drive to left off All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel that helped the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 10-5 Thursday.
Howard put the Phillies ahead with an RBI double in the first against loser Paul Maholm. Howard, who didn't play until July last year while recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon, has started all six of Philadelphia's exhibition games this year and is 8 for 15 (.533) with three doubles and a homer.
Every position player in the Phillies' starting lineup had a hit except for Jimmy Rollins. Howard, Chase Utley and Ben Revere all went 2 for 3, and John Mayberry Jr. homered against Cristhian Martinez in the sixth.
In his second start, Cole Hamels allowed one run -- unearned -- and four hits in three innings. Hamels struck out four of his first seven batters and finished with five strikeouts and no walks.
Maholm gave up five runs, six hits and two walks in 2 2-3 innings.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Brandon Laird hit a grand slam and Rick Ankiel hit his first home run of the spring, leading the Houston Astros to a 7-6 victory over a split squad of New York Yankees on Thursday.
Laird's grand slam came in the sixth inning off loser Shane Greene.
Ankiel, trying to make the Astros as a 33-year-old outfielder, has six hits in nine spring at-bats. His homer off Mike O'Brien broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning.
Melky Mesa's three-run run homer off Ross Seaton in the top of the sixth had given the Yankees a 5-1 lead after RBI singles by Zoilo Altmonte and Matt Diaz.
Lucas Harrell pitched the first three innings for Houston in his second spring start, giving up no runs on three hits, while Sam Demel got the win.
Yankees starter Brett Marshall pitched to the minimum nine batters in his three innings, striking out three while Francisco Cervelli threw out two runners attempting to steal.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) -- Evan Longoria had two hits in his second spring game in the Tampa Bay Rays' 11-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
Longoria improved to 4 for 5 at the plate this spring after getting off to a late start following offseason back surgery.
Austin Jackson hit a two-run homer, Nick Castellanos had three hits with an RBI and Anibel Sanchez pitched three scoreless innings in his second start of the spring for Detroit. Jackson had two of the Tigers' 15 hits.
Castellanos, the Tigers' top prospect, is not likely to earn a spot on Opening Day, but the former first-round draft pick and left fielder continues to impress with six hits in nine at bats.
Sam Fuld, coming off an injury-marred 2012, hit a two-run triple for Tampa Bay.
Reigning AL MVP Miguel Cabrera contributed two hits for the Tigers, including an RBI double.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Carlos Beltran and Jake Westbrook limped to the St. Louis Cardinals' clubhouse moments apart Thursday.
Beltran bruised the little toe on his right foot when he was hit by a pitch in the first inning of the Cardinals' 8-2 victory over the Miami Marlins. Westbrook bruised his left leg below the knee on a grounder hit by Casey Kotchman in the second inning.
Beltran's X-rays were negative, but he said the injury was painful, and he was unsure whether it would affect his plans to play for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Westbrook didn't undergo X-rays.
Westbrook faced six batters and allowed four hits, including an RBI triple by Giancarlo Stanton.
Cardinals non-roster invitee Oscar Taveras hit a grand slam off Marlins starter Justin Turner.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- John Lackey labored through a 35-pitch second inning in his second outing of spring training, and the Boston Red Sox received 14 walks -- including four with the bases loaded -- in a 16-6 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.
Lackey, who missed last season following elbow ligament-replacement surgery, retired the Pirates on eight pitches in the first inning. Pittsburgh took a 3-1 lead in the second when Brandon Inge and Clint Robinson singled, and Jared Goedert homered into the Red Sox bullpen beyond the left-field wall.
Lyle Overbay drew a bases-loaded walk in a four-run third off left-hander Jonathan Sanchez, who gave up four runs, three hits and four walks in two-thirds of an inning. Two runs scored on shortstop Josh Harrison's throwing error.
Pittsburgh's Zach Foster and Roman Colon combine to walk five in the fourth, including David Ross, Overbay and J.C. Linares with the bases full. Jose Iglesias capped the five-run inning with a two-run single.

TAMPA, Fla, (AP) -- David Phelps allowed two hits over three scoreless innings Thursday as a New York Yankees' spilt squad lost 1-0 to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Phelps struck out one and walked one, and has not given up a run in five innings over two starts. He could earn a spot in the rotation to start the season if Phil Hughes remains sidelined by a bulging disk. Hughes is working out in a pool and might resume throwing in a few days.
Brandon Morrow gave up two hits in two shutout innings for Toronto, and Andy LaRoche hit a seventh-inning homer off Chase Whitley.
Toronto outfielder Colby Rasmus didn't play because of minor shoulder tightness.
New York catcher Chris Stewart was ejected by first base umpire Marty Foster in the second after he was called out on a close play following a grounder. Stewart argued the call and pointed twice at the umpire while returning to the dugout.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- As news spread that Joe Mauer and his wife are expecting twins in August, the All-Star catcher had two hits with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored to lead the Minnesota Twins over the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 on Thursday.
Josh Willingham boosted his spring average to .727 with a pair of hits for the Twins. Willingham also drove in a run, drew a walk and scored twice.
Hitting behind Willingham, first baseman Justin Morneau went 2 for 3, including a two-run double, while playing his fifth game in a row in preparation for leading Canada at the World Baseball Classic.
Darin Mastroianni, competing for the starting center field job with the Twins, had two hits with a run scored.
Orioles starter Jair Jurrjens, a non-roster invitee, gave up three walks, three runs -- two earned -- on two hits in one inning.
