Gophers use might inside to bully Wofford

Minnesota opened the 2010-11 regular season with a 69-55 victory against Wofford at Williams Arena Friday night. The Gophers were without junior guard Devoe Jopseph, who was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules Thursday.

However, they utilized their height advantage as their three big men combined for 42 points and 32 rebounds.

Ralph Sampson III led all players with 20 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. Trevor Mbakwe, in his first game with the Gophers after sitting out last season, finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Colton Iverson added eight points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Chip Armelin had 11 points in his college debut.

Mbakwe said that the team has made of point of using their big men early and often.
