Gophers' Carpenter named Big Ten Kicker of the Year

After converting on a conference-high 21 field goals this season, Minnesota Gophers kicker Emmit Carpenter is being rewarded for his stellar season.

Carpenter was named the Big Ten's Bakken-Anderson Kicker of the Year on Tuesday, also earning first team All-Big Ten honors from the media and second-team honors from the coaches.

Carpenter kicked 41 extra points this season, racking up 104 points overall, a figure that ranks third all-time in the Gophers' record books for individual scoring.

Linebacker Jonathan Celestin, defensive lineman Scott Ekpe, defensive back Jalen Myrick, linebacker Jack Lynn and defensive back Damarius Travis received Big Ten Honorable Mention awards.
