Goldschmidt among 7 from D-backs to play in World Classic
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt is one of seven players from the Diamondbacks organization who will participate in this year's World Baseball Classic, which begins March 6 and runs through the championship round at Dodger Stadium, March 20-22.
Goldschmidt joins Kansas City's Eric Hosmer as first baseman on the 28-man Team USA roster.
The Diamondbacks' other WBC participants include relief pitcher Fernando Rodney (Dominican Republic), relief pitcher Silvino Bracho (Venezuela), infielder Daniel Descalso (Italy), outfielder Reymond Fuentes (Puerto Rico), minor-league outfielder Zac Borenstein (Israel) and minor-league pitcher Miguel Aguilar (Mexico).
The Dominican Republic is the defending champion in the fourth WBC, which takes place every four years.
In addition to Goldschmidt and Hosmer, the U.S. roster includes catchers Buster Posey and Jonathan Lucroy, infielders Nolan Arenado, Ian Kinsler, Brandon Crawford, Daniel Murphy and Matt Carpenter, outfielders Andrew McCutchen, Giancarlo Stanton, Adam Jones and Christian Yelich and pitchers Chris Archer, Michael Fulmer and Andrew Miller.
