Gallo tabbed Carolina League MVP

Joey Gallo hasn't played for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans since early June but the Texas Rangers prospect made a huge impression.

Gallo was named the Carolina League most valuable player Thursday despite not having played for the Class A Pelicans in more than two months.

Those are the kinds of things that can happen when you still lead the Carolina League in home runs with 21, with that coming in just 58 games.

Gallo has a chance to lead both the Carolina League and Texas League in homers. Since getting promoted to Double A Frisco, Gallo has 20 home runs, which is just one behind the league leader. His 41 homers have already matched the franchise record for homers in a season by a minor league and put .

Gallo, 20, was the Carolina League player of the week three times and was the league's player of the month for May. Before getting promoted Gallo had 50 RBI, 53 runs scored and a .735 slugging percentage to go along with a .323 batting average.

Gallo's day of awards wasn't done though. He was also named to the Texas League postseason All-Star team for his efforts in Frisco. In his 64 games with the Roughriders Gallo has 51 RBI to go along with his 20 homers

Gallo was one of four Pelicans to make the Carolina League end of season All-Star team. His Frisco teammates Jorge Alfaro and Nick Williams also made the squad along with outfielder Chris Garia.
