Freeway Faceoff: Kings shut out Ducks, 6-0
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Jeff Carter had two goals and an assist, Matt Frattin scored his first goal for Los Angeles, and the Kings beat the Anaheim Ducks 6-0 in a preseason game Tuesday night.
Frattin and Drew Doughty each had a goal and two assists. Anze Kopitar and Scott Sabourin also scored as the Kings dominated a preseason Freeway Faceoff. Jonathan Quick got his first preseason action for the Kings, stopping all 12 shots he faced in the first two periods.
Viktor Fasth made 23 saves and stopped Kyle Clifford's penalty shot early in the second period for Anaheim.
John Gibson stopped five of eight shots for Anaheim in a shaky third period for the touted American goalie prospect. He gave up two goals to Carter, including a breakaway with 7:55 to play.
Dustin Penner reunited with Corey Perry and Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf on the PPG Line for the first time since 2007, when Penner left the Stanley Cup-winning Ducks for Edmonton. Penner left the Kings this summer to return to the Ducks, and the power forward is getting a chance to revive his chemistry with Anaheim's two stars.
Frattin is hoping to win a job on the Kings' left wing after arriving from Toronto as part a trade for goalie Jonathan Bernier. He beat Fasth in the slot during a power play late in the first period, and his pass breakup led to Carter's breakaway goal in the third.
Mathieu Garon stopped 11 shots in the third period for Los Angeles.
