FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for Jan. 27

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.

With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?

Ethan Happ, Wisconsin forward: The redshirt freshman continues to improve. After last week's game-winning shot against Michigan State, Happ posted 20 points, 11 rebounds and two steals in a win over Penn State and 25 points (on 10-of-15 shooting), eight rebounds, two blocks and four steals in Tuesday's victory vs. Indiana.

Michael Caputo, former Badgers safety: The NFL hopeful perhaps helped his chances with an MVP performance at the East-West Shrine Game, where he picked off two passes and impressed scouts with his play.

Jason Kidd, Bucks head coach: After missing 17 games following hip surgery, Milwaukee's main man was back on the bench Tuesday. Making matters even better, the Bucks won in Kidd's return.

Wisconsin's men's hockey: The Badgers were blistered by their border rivals, Minnesota, last weekend to the tune of 4-0 and 9-2, the latter being Wisconsin's worse loss to the Gophers since 2003. In addition, junior forward Aidan Cavallini (1 game) and senior defenseman Eddie Wittchow (3 games) were suspended by the Big Ten for illegal hits they delivered against Minnesota. It's just the latest in what has been another long season for a once-proud program.

Marquette men's basketball: The Golden Eagles are trying to make a case to be included in the NCAA tournament. A Bad home loss last Wednesday to a DePaul team -- at home, no less -- which hadn't won a Big East game and totaled just six victories on the season won't help the cause.
