FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for Feb. 10
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.
With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?
Greg Monroe, Bucks center: Monroe got benched Tuesday against Boston but instead of sulking he used it as motivation, posting his 27th double-double of the season (sixth-most in the NBA, by the way) with a season-high 29 points as well 12 rebounds (and three assists, two blocks and a steal).
Greg Gard, Wisconsin interim head basketball coach: No, a win over Ohio State isn't what it has meant in previous years, but nevertheless the Badgers defeat of the Buckeyes was UW's fifth straight victory, building momentum for Gard to remain as head coach. However, on the horizon are tough road games at Maryland, Michigan State and Iowa in the next couple of weeks. Let's see where Gard is trending come March.
Ann-Renee Desbiens, Wisconsin goalie: Desbiens makes the Stock Report for the second straight week after notching her 15th shutout of the season -- a 2-0 blanking of Ohio State last Saturday -- which set the single-season Wisconsin record. Not surprisingly, Desbiens leads the NCAA with a 0.61 goals-against average and .966 save percentage.
Hotel prices for early August in Canton, Ohio: There figures to be a big Packers contingent at this year's ceremony with Brett Favre being enshrined. Remember when Favre became hated in Green Bay? Those days are well behind us as we enter the next chapter of the beloved Favre tour.
Marquette's NCAA tournament chances: A 17-point loss at Seton Hall and a closer-than-it-sounds eight-point loss at then-No. 6 Xavier (but a loss nevertheless), left the Golden Eagles with a 15-9 record but just 4-7 in the Big East, which is eighth place in the standings. It seems doubtful that the Big East will get eight teams in the Big Dance -- and having a losing conference record certainly won't help. Marquette has seven league games left to get at .500 or better and make a push.
Jabari Parker, Bucks forward: Things were going well for Parker, but he's struggled the last three games, including two this past week. Against Utah and Boston, Parker had just 12 points -- making only 6 of 18 shots -- and seven rebounds combined. Perhaps playing in this weekend's Rising Stars Challenge will get him back on track.
