FOX Sports Southwest wins six Lone Star Emmys

FOX Sports Southwest was honored with six Emmys at the 10th annual Lone Star Emmy Awards recognizing broadcast excellence in Texas held Saturday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

The six wins brings FOX Sports Southwest's Lone Star Emmy total to 44 since the inception of the awards.

The regional sports network was awarded statues at this year's event for its live event and original programming, and on-camera talent.

FOX Sports Southwest kept its streak alive in the Live Sports Event category, winning the Emmy for the 10th consecutive year for its broadcast of the Dallas Mavericks shutting down the New York Knicks and Jeremy Lin last season on March 6, 2012.

Dallas Stars announcers Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh won Emmys as the state's top play-by-play and analyst team. It marked the fourth time the Stars broadcasters received the award.

High School Spotlight, the longest-running series on FOX Sports Southwest, earned its second consecutive Emmy as the top magazine program in the state.

The DQ Big Game of the Week, a popular segment on High School Spotlight and High School Scoreboard Live, was recognized in the Sports Series category for the second time in the last three years.

FOX Sports Southwest's Spotlight special on the valiant life of Texas Longhorns football player Freddie Steinmark was awarded an Emmy in the Sports Special category. The program was based on award-winning author Jim Dent's book Courage Beyond the Game: The Freddie Steinmark Story.

"I'm extremely proud of our talented staff for their dedication to produce high-quality sports programming that local fans have come to expect from us," said FOX Sports Southwest Senior Executive Producer Mike Anastassiou. "We strive to produce the best sports programming in the state and the Southwest region. Being recognized by our peers is validation of our excellent work both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes."

The Lone Star Emmys are presented by the Lone Star Chapter of the National Television Academy. Entries are judged by peer judging panels from major television markets across the country.
