Foul ball strikes girl in head at Michigan baseball game

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) A Michigan girl attending a minor league baseball game has been hospitalized after being hit in the head by a foul ball.

WNEM-TV and MLive.com report that 7-year-old Lena Webber was attending a Great Lakes Loons game Wednesday at Midland's Dow Diamond. She was sitting in a grassy area of the right field berm when she was struck.

Lena's father, Ryan Webber, told MLive in a Facebook message Thursday that she suffered a fractured skull, whiplash and a concussion, and is listed in fair condition. He hopes she will be released soon.

He added that Lena has headaches but ''things look real good'' and she's ''a trouper.''

Many students attended the game as part of a School Kids Day promotion.

Midland is about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
