Fantasy Football: Week 2 Draft Kings and FanDuel advice

Here to provide you with the best matchups and players as you set your Fantasy Football DFS lineups for Week 2.

Last week we made out pretty well with some players we targeted, as running backs Spencer Ware and DeAngelo Williams were the top-two running backs in Week 1.

Wide receivers Antonio Brown and Amari Cooper rewarded owners with solid performances of their own, while Odell Beckham Jr. underperformed at his price tag — just like I said he would.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans stacks also worked out well if you decided to use them.

This week and every week we will breakdown each position into three separate categories using both FanDuel and Draft Kings pricing.

1. High-tier – These are your “heavy-hitters”. If you play season long fantasy football, they more than likely the players who went in the first few rounds. They will cost you a pretty penny but in the end, it’ll be worth it.

2. Mid-tier – This is where a majority of the players will be located. The key is finding the players with the most favorable matchups and in turn, exceeding the dollar amount placed upon them.

3. Low-tier (value) – These are your bottom-of-the barrel players in terms of pricing, but not necessarily in ability or situation. Not only should these players outperform their salary; they should crush it.

At the end, I’ll provide you with two lineups (one for FanDuel and one for Draft Kings). These lineups should be used for you to use as a base while you plug in some different players you may prefer.

Quarterbacks

High-tier

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers vs. San Francisco 49ers (FD $9,000/DK $7,900): Last year’s No.1 FF QB finds himself in a great situation. The Panthers had a mini bye-week by playing on TNF. The 49ers, meanwhile, are on a short week by playing on MNF. Also, the 49ers have to travel all the way to the east coast to play a 1:00 p.m. EST game. The matchup was solid to begin with but this added advantage should help Superman take flight a few times in this game.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints vs. New York Giants (FD $9,200/DK $8,200): The fact is the Saints defense is brutal and they are going to give up a ton of points. This will force Drew Brees to throw a ton. In case you didn’t know, Brees is kind of good at throwing the ball.

Mid-tier

Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (FD $8,200/DK $6,900): Last week the Buccaneers gave up 344 passing yards and 2 touchdowns to Matt Ryan. This bodes well for Palmer who was a top FF QB in 2015. I’ll guarantee Palmer throws for 300 yards this week and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he tosses 2-3 touchdown passes as well.

Eli Manning, New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints (FD $8,100/DK $7,600): Quarterbacks who get to face the Saints putrid defense will always be a good play. Manning, who threw three touchdowns last week, could be an elite play. In case you needed a little more incentive, the Saints best CB, Delvin Breaux, broke his leg last week.

Low-tier (Value)

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins (FD $7,00/ DK $5,800): Last week Prescott was highly owned but didn’t deliver. This week he gets the Redskins who are coming off a short week and were last seen getting torched by Ben Roethlisberger and company.

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles (FD $6,800/DK $5,700): There are some games Cutler will pad the stat sheet and you’ll think to yourself “Why can’t he do this every week?” This might be one of those games. The Eagles are weak at the CB position and their No.1 CB, Leodis McKelvin, might miss this game.

Running Backs

High-tier

Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins (FD $7,900/DK $7,300) DeAngelo Williams was last week’s No. 1 FF RB after going up against the Redskins. In a game where Elliott should see 20-plus touches, he should do well for himself on Sunday.

C.J. Anderson, Denver Broncos vs. Indianapolis Colts (FD $7,800/DK $6,800) Mr. Anderson had a excellent start to his 2016 season by totaling 139 yards and 2 touchdowns in Week 1. He got a little more rest by playing on TNF, and the Colts defense is bad. Running backs have a long history of succeeding under Gary Kubiak so this could be just the start for Anderson in 2016.

Mid-tier

Spencer Ware, Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans (FD $6,800/DK $6,100) Last week’s No. 2 FF RB isn’t as cheap as he was last week and he gets a tougher matchup. However, Jamaal Charles looks like he’ll miss this game and at Ware’s price he’s worth it.

T.J. Yeldon, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. San Diego Chargers (FD $6,500/DK $4,700) Yeldon finds himself in a similar situation as Spencer Ware last week. First off, he’s playing the San Diego Chargers. Two, he should carry the load because his RBBC partner (Chris Ivory) appears as if he’ll miss this game. If Ivory is active Yeldon loses so much luster that it might be better to spend your money elsewhere. If not, Yeldon will be on “bell cow” status.

Danny Woodhead, San Diego Chargers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (FD $6,400/DK $5,200) What’s a guy got to do to get a little respect around here? Woodhead was the No. 3 PPR RB in 2015. In his first game in 2016, he totals 120 yards and 1 touchdown. Personally, I’m going to plug Woodhead in at his modest price tag just about every week. More often than not, it’s going to pay off.

Low-tier (Value)

Theo Riddick, RB Detroit Lions vs. Tennessee Titans (FD $5,900/DK $4,300) The 5-foot-9 PPR machine was a monster last week. Although it’s unlikely he finds the endzone twice like he did last week, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he surpasses his value once again in Week 2.

Isaiah Crowell, RB Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens (FD $5,800/DK $4,400) He has a tough matchup against the Ravens. With that said, he’s the starting running back in Cleveland and he’s also the goal line RB. All he needs is about 60 yards rushing and a touchdown to return value.

Wide Receivers

High-tier

Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints (FD $9,400/DK $9,500) Last week, I didn’t think OBJ was worth his price. Turns out he wasn’t. This week, he very well could be. He’s an elite WR in maybe his best matchup of the entire year. In a situation like this, I’m willing to spend up on a guy like this.

Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals (FD $9,200/DK $9,900) You know the deal with Brown. He’s really expensive but more often than not, he’s worth it.

Mid-tier

Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. San Diego Chargers (FD $8,200/DK $7,800) By last year’s standards, Robinson didn’t have a great outing last week. However, the biggest takeaway is led the NFL in targets in Week 1. Expect the targets to be there once again on Sunday and opportunities breed success.

Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles (FD $7,800/DK $7,700) He went over 100 yards receiving against a tough Texans defense last week. This week he plays a questionable Eagles secondary who might be without their No.1 CB.

Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (FD $7,400/DK $6,400) The Cardinals offense is going to throw a lot as always. The Buccaneers couldn’t keep Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu out of the endzone last week so Fitzgerald should have plenty of opportunities.

Low-tier (Value)

Sterling Shepard, New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints (FD $6,200/DK $5,200) The second-round rookie found the endzone in Week 1. This week he gets a great matchup against the Saints porous defense.

Tajae Sharpe, Tennessee Titans vs. Detroit Lions (FD $6,000/DK $4,100) Last week Sharpe led the team in targets, receptions and receiving yards. The Lions offense has been solid since the end of last year and once again in Week 1. They should put up some points. When they do that, the Titans will be forced to throw. Sharpe very well could lead the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards for the second straight week.

Tight Ends

High-tier

Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers, vs. San Francisco 49ers (FD $7,600/DK $5,600) Olsen and Cam Newton have the best connection on the team. With a mini bye week to prepare for a below-average 49ers squad, they should do some damage together.

Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys (FD $7,400/DK $6,800) Unfortunately for Reed, his QB, Kirk Cousins, didn’t play well in Week 1. That said, Reed still led the team in targets (11) and receptions (7). He’s a strong bet to do that each and every week.

(Note: I’m not going to pay top dollar for New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski (FD $8,700/DK $6,900). Even if he plays, he’s most likely not 100% and Tom Brady isn’t the QB. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him have a good day but it’s too risky with his price)

Mid-tier

Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans vs. Detroit Lions (FD $6,600/DK $4,500) Last season Walker led the team in targets, receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns by a large margin. The Lions gave up three receiving touchdowns to Colts tight ends last week. Look for Walker and QB Marcus Mariota to get back on the same page on Sunday.

Gary Barnidge, Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens (FD $6,000/DK $4,000) Barnidge is an interesting play in Week 2 after putting up a goose egg in Week 1. Josh McCown will take over as the team’s starting QB for the foreseeable future. Last season Barnidge was one of the best FF tight ends with McCown throwing him the ball.

Low-tier (Value)

C.J. Uzomah, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (FD $4,500/DK $2,600) Yeah I’m not exactly sure who this guy is either. What I do know is he was second on the team in targets last week only behind A.J. Green. With a possible shootout on the horizon, Uzomah could pay big dividends at his price.

D/ST

High-tier

Carolina Panthers vs. San Francisco 49ers (FD $5,300/DK $3,900) There’s too much to love about this situation. One paper, the Panthers are such a superior team. The Panthers played on Thursday Night Football so they had a mini bye-week. The 49ers played on Monday Night Football so they had a short week. The 49ers have to travel all the way to the east coast for a 1:00 pm EST game.

Mid-tier

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns (FD $4,500/DK $3,000) The Ravens shutdown the Buffalo Bills last week. Now they get a Browns team who appear to be set for another typical Browns type of season. Devin Hester is returning kickoffs and punts so there’s always a chance he can bring one back for a touchdown.

Low-tier (Value)

San Diego Chargers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (FD $4,000/DK $2,500) I’m going with the same narrative as last week. QB Blake Bortles led the NFL in interceptions and sacks taken last year. Last week the Packers sacked him three times and forced an interception. Also last week, the Chargers forced three sacks and an interception against the Kanas City Chiefs.
