Fantasy Football Week 10 Waiver Wire

Jacksonville’s Mike Brown could help you win a fantasy football title this season. I’ll elaborate on that point in just a second. First, here’s a quick fantasy football monthly recap.

My inbox and Twitter feed is full of questions regarding hot hands in the backfield. The shiny new toys out of the box have owners thinking “Should I drop Maurice Jones-Drew for X-player or Z-player.”

It wasn’t too long ago when owners were ready to sell Stevan Ridley for 50-cents on the dollar. At the time I preached patience knowing the success of the Patriots’ offense hinged on Rob Gronkowski’s seamless return to the offense. So, far and so good. Ridley leads all running backs with 70.6 fantasy points over the last four weeks.

So, to all those owners in a panic to cut bait with, say, MJD, the Jaguars’ running back has scored the 24th-most fantasy points the last four weeks and that includes a BYE week zero. All owners should definitely take the time to check out the fantasy football scoring trends data available on FOXSports.com. It could save you from making a knee-jerk transaction.

Now as for Mike Brown, he’s the top player impacted by the Justin Blackmon suspension. Cecil Shorts was already heavily involved in the offense pre-suspension, but Brown, available in 99 percent of leagues, has managed to squeeze enough targets out of Chad Henne in a crowded, garbage time passing attack. In his last three games, his stats break down like this:

12 receptions (20 targets) | 212 yards | TD

Brown has a real chance to emerge as the Cecil Shorts of 2013 for the Jaguars. As we know, the offense will be trailing in most games and Shorts has made garbage time fantasy production an art form.  If I need depth at wide receiver in PPR league formats, Brown is a guy I’m targeting this week.

As for the rest of my Week 10 fantasy football waiver wire claims ..

Mike James – RB

Aside from the fact that you don’t ignore 28 carries for 158 yards with a touchdown against the “Legion of Boom,” James has a juicy playoff schedule waiting for him down the road. He’ll take on the Buffalo Bills (17th vs. RUSH) in Week 14, normally the first round of the playoffs, and the Rams (allowing second-most fantasy points to RB) in Week 16 – championship weekend.

Reports of Doug Martin “in play” to give it a go this week are out there, but a winless team rushing their leading rusher from a season ago doesn’t seem like good business. Martin may not be Wally Pipp, but I think the Buccaneers would rather get a better look at what they have in James instead of shoehorn Martin back into the lineup with nothing to win.

Aaron Dobson - WR

Dobson was best known for dropping Tom Brady passes earlier this season. He’s still tied for the league-lead with seven drops. However, Brady has continued to feed him the rock as Kenbrell Thompkins has faded to the background for the time being. Dobson has caught 12 of 21 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns over the last three games.

Gronkowski and Amendola draw plenty of attention for the rookie out of Marshall to roam free.

Riley Cooper – WR

In games where Nick Foles has started for the Eagles, Cooper has received more than six targets (19 targets) and averaged over 115 receiving yards per game with four touchdowns. Heading into waiver wire Wednesday, Cooper was available in more than 95 percent of leagues on FOXSports.com.

Rashad Jennings - RB

With a dash of Marcel Reece in the passing game, Jennings expects to see 15-20 carries with Darren McFadden dealing with the same hamstring injury that sidelined him earlier this season. One warning to owners thinking about adding Jennings, however, his rest-of-season schedule isn’t very friendly. Jennings’ value remains higher in PPR league considering he did haul in eight passes for 70-plus yards against the Redskins in his one start this season.
