Falcons activate run-stuffing DT Peters
The Falcons on Friday activated defensive tackle Corey Peters and cut cornerback Terrence Johnson.
Peters, who had an injured foot, was on the reserve/non-football injury list, which meant he could not even practice with the team until after Week 6. He has practiced all week long and will likely play on Sunday at Philadelphia, which has the NFL's No. 10 run defense.
Peters started all 15 games last season for which he was healthy. During that span the Falcons were in the top 10 in the league against the run.
Neither the team nor Peters has said much about how Peters suffered the injury, which came in the offseason. Peters said on Monday he had not put on the pads from January until this week. ESPN.com reported on Friday Peters' injury cost him $100,000.
Peters could help the Falcons' run defense, which ranks 28th in the NFL. Without him, the team has gone from a four-man rotation at the position to a three-man one.
"My job is to go out there and give it everything I've got and do what they ask me to do and hopefully get back out there as soon as possible," Peters told FOXSportsSouth.com on Monday.
At the time, he said his foot felt "pretty good" and added, "I'm not worried about my foot."
