East Region Recruiting Notebook

A few days after decommitting from Ohio State, Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha safety Tyler Green committed to Indiana at the end of an official visit. Green told Scout the Hoosiers were pursuing him the hardest, and he just needed to see the campus before making a decision.

Green was joined at Indiana by fellow Maryland prospect Nnamdi Oguayo, a defensive end from Beltsville (Md.) High Point. While Oguayo did not commit, he said Indiana and Pittsburgh, which is now looking for a new coach, are his two leaders.

Baltimore Calvert Hall receiver Lawrence Cager saw a twist in his recruitment after cancelling a Notre Dame visit. He is now talking about making two more official visits – Georgia, Ole Miss and Miami are in contention – after he made official visits to Ohio State, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

Syracuse picked up a nice commitment from Coatesville (Pa.) High defensive end Amir Ealey, who made the decision hours after returning from an official visit to Maryland. Ealey cited his comfort with the coaches as his main reason, and said teammate Jazzee Stocker, a safety, is now his No. 1 priority on the recruiting trail.<br.

Baltimore St. Frances Academy cornerback Justice Pettus-Dixon decommitted from Connecticut on Monday night, and by Tuesday he announced he committed to FCS program Towson, which is close to his home in Columbia, Md.

Five-star defensive end Josh Sweat of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith announced his decision to attend Florida State. He will enroll in January, which will give him a chance to rehab his surgically-repaired knee with the Seminoles team doctors.

Five-star Mechanicsville (Va.) Atlee outside linebacker Ricky DeBerry will make his college decision on Friday at 10 a.m. at his school. DeBerry will choose between Alabama, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Four-star Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes running back Jaason Lewis remains firmly committed to Arizona State, but will likely take official visits to Florida, Miami and Ole Miss in January.

Class of 2016 Ocean Lakes Scout 100 cornerback Levonta Taylor's most recent visit was to Georgia for the Auburn game and he came away impressed. His next visit will likely be to Clemson, followed by trips to Ohio State, UCLA and USC in the spring.

Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna offensive tackle Paris Palmer ended his recruitment by giving Penn State what it needed the most ...help on the offensive line for the 2015 season. Palmer, who was committed to South Carolina until recently, chose the Nittany Lions.

Lackawanna also sent a trio of other prospects to Division I schools as tight end Julian Allen signed with Southern Mississippi, offensive lineman Delonte Murray signed with Cincinnati and safety Rontrell Peyton signed with Ball State.

Virginia Tech added a commitment from Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy defensive tackle Joshua Nijman.

Navy beat Army for the 13th straight year, then landed a commitment from Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep two-way lineman Dave Tolentino. He will head to the Navy's prep school for a year (like most recruits do) and his college position will be sorted out there.

Philadelphia George Washington defensive end Shareef Miller will make his college decision known Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. He already officially visited Pittsburgh and Rutgers, and has visits set to Arizona State (Jan. 16) and Penn State (Jan. 23).
