Don't count on Jaguars going after Tim Tebow
While a few weeks ago, everybody seemed to think it was a foregone conclusion that Tim Tebow would wind up in Jacksonville in 2013, David Caldwell, the newly hired Jaguars general manager, says it's not happening.
"I can't imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar," Caldwell said of Tebow during his introductory press conference on Thursday.
Of course, Tebow is currently a member of the New York Jets, but Caldwell said even if he's released, the much-discussed quarterback is not the on team's radar.
Which will probably upset a few Jaguars fans, many who watched Tebow help deliver a couple of national championships to the University of Florida.
Tebow, in his third season, had little impact in his first year in New York. He saw limited in action in 12 games, completing 6 of 8 passes for 39 yards and rushing for 102 yards. He failed to score a touchdown.
According to the Associated Press, team owner Shad Khan, who pushed former GM Gene Smith to try to trade for Tebow last offseason, said he will make no such demands of Caldwell this offseason.
"It's not my decision," Khan said. "I want to do whatever to help this team win. Who the players are is really the general manager's and coaches' -- it's a football-side operation decision. It's really not my decision."
