Done Deal: Rangers officially get Hamels
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers deal for Cole Hamels is official as the left-hander was acquired along with reliever Jake Diekman and cash for Matt Harrison and five minor leaguers.
Hamels is expected to arrive in Arlington Friday night and start Saturday for the Rangers vs. San Francisco.
Hamels, 31, is a three-time All-Star and threw a no-hitter in his last start. Diekman will give Texas a second left-hander in the bullpen to go along with Sam Freeman.
In addition to Harrison, the Rangers traded minor-league pitchers Jake Thompson, Alec Asher and Jered Eickhoff along with catcher Jorge Alfaro and outfielder Nick Williams.
