Dolphins WR Parker has foot surgery, should be OK by opener

Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver DeVante Parker underwent successful surgery on his left foot at Doctors Hospital at Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables, the team announced Friday.

Parker, the 14th overall pick in the 2015 draft, will not participate in the Dolphins' upcoming minicamp but is expected to be ready for Miami's season opener against the Washington Redskins on Sept. 13.

Parker's agent, Jimmy Gould, tells USA Today the surgery was done to replace screw put in Parker's foot during a surgery in 2014 that caused the former Louisville star to miss part of his senior season.

According to the Miami Herald, however, this latest surgery is said to be precautionary more than anything and if it were the regular season he'd be good to go.

The 6-foot-3 Parker had been an OTA darling in recent weeks, displaying great hands and a wide catch-radius, even while being covered by Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes.

With Parker sidelined for the time being, look for veteran receiver Greg Jennings, who signed as a free agent this offseason, to play a bigger role within Miami's offense.
