Dolphins unveil new uniforms, 5th logo in 48-year history
DAVIE, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins unveiled their new logo and uniforms Thursday night at Sun Life Stadium, shortly before the start of the NFL Draft.
Considered the fifth logo in the team’s 48-year history, the modernized design still includes a dolphin against an image of the sun’s rays. Unlike earlier versions, the new-look dolphin does not wear a helmet.
The logo also represents a return to the franchise’s original aqua and orange color scheme.
“I never was a big fan of a dolphin with a helmet on it, but that’s the one we had,” former Dolphins quarterback Bob Griese said. “(The new one) looks confident, it looks stronger, it looks ready to battle.”
The new Nike uniforms include a lighter, brighter color palette that recalls the franchise’s roots and colors.
“As an athlete, you don’t want to worry about your uniform on the field. It’s good that Nike thinks about the details so we don’t have to,” Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace said. “Look good, feel good, play good — that’s what it’s all about.”
Former Dolphins greats Dan Marino and Jason Taylor said they liked the team’s new look.
“At the end of the day, the logo looks great but the team that goes on the field, as long as they can go out and be intimidating and win games, I don’t care what you wear,” Taylor said.
“It’s about looking forward and a new vision for the Dolphins, but the bottom line is it’s all about winning football games,” Marino said. "It doesn’t matter what the logo is if you’re winning, but at the same time, if you’re winning and and you have a nice logo, it all looks good.”
