Dettori lands new deal with Al Thani

Five weeks after returning from a cocaine ban, Frankie Dettori is the new retained rider for Qatari-based owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani.

Dettori has been without a regular ride since his successful 18-year partnership with Godolphin ended in October.

Dettori says ''it's a good opportunity for me to get back in the big league.''

Dettori rode some horses owned by Al Thani at Royal Ascot last month.

The Italian-born jockey was banned for six months after testing positive at Longchamp last September.
