Despite injury, Stanton named June's NL Player of the Month

Despite missing the final four days of June, Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton was named the National League Player of the Month.

Stanton, who underwent surgery for his left wrist hamate fracture over the weekend, hit .344 with 18 runs, five doubles, 12 home runs and 23 RBI in 24 games.

At the time of his injury, Stanton led the majors in both homers (27) and RBI (67), appearing in all but one of Miami's first 75 games. In the most recent All-Star voting update, he ranked second among NL outfielders. It would be his third All-Star selection and second in a row.

This marks the second time Stanton has received a monthly award from Major League Baseball. He also earned the honor in May 2012.
