Datsyuk to have MRI on injured shoulder
The injury bug has already bitten the Detroit Red Wings.
Center Pavel Datsyuk injured his shoulder in Monday's exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after being hit by defenseman Rob Scuderi. Datsyuk will have an MRI Wednesday, but doesn't believe the injury is serious.
"I [don't] want to miss much time, just I hope one week," Datsyuk said. "We'll see."
Coach Mike Babcock admitted he isn't as worried about the injury now as he was Monday night.
"I think last night they thought it was pretty serious," Babcock said. "I didn't think he was feeling that bad today. I think he was surprised. He'll get checked out and we'll know more."
Datsyuk had one goal and one assist in the Wings' 2-1 victory over the Penguins. He appeared in just 45 games of an injury-ridden 2013-14 season, but isn't wasting much time worrying about his latest setback.
"Everything can happen but don't worry about some things," Datsyuk said. "It's hockey."
Darren Helm was also injured Monday night. Helm suffered a broken nose and needed a few stitches, which Datsyuk found humorous given the upcoming holiday.
"He's ready for Halloween," Datsyuk said.
