Crew's Dominic Oduro named MLS Player Of The Month

COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew forward Dominic Oduro was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Month by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the month of September in the 2013 MLS season. Oduro led the Crew to a 4-1-0 record in September contributing three goals – all game-winning – and two assists in five League matches. Columbus currently holds the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, a single point shy of a playoff spot.

Oduro started his September campaign by assisting on the Crew’s second-half goal on September 4, during a 2-0 Crew win over the visiting Houston Dynamo. Oduro showed his skill on September 14, scoring the game-winning goal in the Crew’s 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact. His brilliant touch in the 78th minute capped the Crew’s thrilling comeback win. In the next match, Oduro found the back of the net again, providing the first of the Crew’s three goals in a decisive win over Eastern Conference foe, the Chicago Fire, on September 21.
For his effort in the final match of the month, earlier this week, Oduro was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Sports Reporters (NASR) for week 31 of the 2013 MLS season. Oduro recorded a 17th-minute assist before slotting home the game-winning goal in the 44th minute in the team’s emphatic 4-2 win over FC Dallas on Sunday night in Frisco, Texas.
Oduro is the first Crew player to win the monthly award since Chad Marshall took home the honor in August of 2009.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
