Coyotes to honor Doan prior to Thursday game vs. Sharks

The Coyotes will honor Shane Doan before Thursday night's game vs. San Jose in recognition of him becoming the franchise's all-time leading goal scorer.

Doan scored the 380th goal of his 19-year career on Dec. 31 to pass NHL Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk as the franchise record-holder.

The "Doan 380" Night celebration will include a pre-game ceremony featuring tributes from current and former teammates. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a limited edition Shane Doan "Cowboy" bobblehead, courtesy of FOX Sports Arizona, and all fans will be presented a commemorative print of Doan's achievement at game's end.

For those unable to attend, FOX Sports Arizona will present a special night of Doan 380 programming.

FOX Sports Arizona's coverage begins at 6 p.m. with an encore presentation of "In My Own Words: Shane Doan." Then at 6:30 p.m., the "Coyotes Live" pre-game show hits the air to get fans set for the big night and Coyotes versus Sharks.

Throughout the game coverage, FOX Sports Arizona will shine the spotlight on Doan by looking back at the most memorable moments of his career while showcasing video congratulations from Arizona sports icons Larry Fitzgerald, Paul Goldschmidt and Luis Gonzalez, as well as former teammates Jeremy Roenick, Keith Tkachuk, Teppo Numminen and the man who held the old franchise record for goals -- Dale Hawerchuk.

Former teammates Ray Whitney, Craig Janney and Greg Adams will also join the game telecast to talk about Captain Coyote as well.

Fans also have a way to be involved in the broadcast via Twitter. Tweet @FOXSPORTSAZ a photo of you and Shane Doan with the hashtag #Doan380, tell what he means to you, and it might make it on television during our coverage!

"What's remarkable about Shane is that if you look at all of the goals he's scored, almost none have come easy," FOX Sports Arizona analyst Tyson Nash told ArizonaCoyotes.com. "The guys that score that many goals in this league are skill guys, and a lot of them are purely skill guys. What amazes me is Shane does it the hard way, and there's been only a few guys in the league that have done it that way."

Said coach Dave Tippett: "He defies age. If you look at the smile on his face and the work he puts in and how he plays, you'd never think he's that age, but he is, and he just keeps going. . . . It's great to see him honored."

While grateful for the recognition, Doan said the more important aspect on Thursday is beating San Jose, which is tied with the Coyotes and Vancouver for second place in the Pacific Division.

This Shane Doan bobblehead will be given to the first 5,000 fans in attendance at Thursday night's game.

"We've got to win the game," he told ArizonaCoyotes.com. "If we can find a way to beat San Jose, it would be a great night then."

The Doan bobblehead depicts him carrying a lasso and wearing a cowboy hat and boots along with his Coyotes jersey.

"I just want to be a cowboy and I can't be, so I have to pretend to be" he said. "I'm just a fake one."
