Columbus Crew on Independence Day

















When the Crew take on the Galaxy on Independence Day tomorrow, they'll actually be extending a tradition of July 4th games that goes back a while. 
Here are some Crew-on-the-Fourth facts:


·  The game in LA this week will be the 10th, Fourth of July match for the Crew
·  Columbus is 2-4-3 all-time on Independence Day, having last played on the holiday in 2009.
·  The last 4th of July win was back in 2001 against LA in the Rose Bowl before a crowd of 52,634. Brian West scored both goals and current Crew Assistant Coach Mike Lapper was in the first 11 that day.
·  The Crew also played the Galaxy on July 4, 2000 again in the Rose Bowl, this time in front of 53,844. Columbus lost 1-0 and both Robert Warzycha (Current Head coach) and Mike Lapper (current assistant coach) started in that game.
·  1999 the Crew played on July 4th in Colorado before another huge crowd (51,025) winning 3-0. Mike Lapper scored a goal & Robert Warzhyca also started that contest
