Clippers trade Jared Cunningham to 76ers to open roster spot
The Clippers have traded guard Jared Cunningham and the draft rights to Cenk Akyol and cash considerations to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for the rights to Serhiy Lishchuk, the team announced Wednesday.
Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the trade Wednesday.
Dealing Cunningham, 23, opens up a roster spot. He had logged precious little time for the Clippers, averaging 1.8 points and .5 assists in 4.7 minutes per game.
The Clippers had planned to waive Cunningham regardless, otherwise his contract would've become guaranteed this week. Cunningham has a contract worth $915,243 this season.
Cunningham, who was inactive for Monday's game against Atlanta, played college basketball at Oregon State.
When asked about Cunningham on Monday, Doc Rivers said: "He's a great kid, and he works his butt off for us. We like him a lot."
Rivers acknowledged earlier in the week that the Clippers had made a decision on what they would do with Cunningham.
The 32-year-old Lishchuk, a 6-foot-11 forward, is playing for the Valencia Basket Club of the Spanish League, where he averages 6.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, .8 steals and 15.6 minutes per game in eight games this season.
