Clippers, GM Neil Olshey agree to part ways

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles Clippers and general manager Neil Olshey have agreed to part ways.

The franchise had announced last week that Olshey and the Clippers had reached an agreement in principle to bring him back. But the team said Monday that the deal will not be completed.

Clippers President Andy Roeser said circumstances have changed since the announcement Friday. "In light of that, we want to wish Neil well and acknowledge his contributions during the time he spent with the Clippers," Roeser said in a statement.

In just his second season in charge, Olshey oversaw a major retooling of the roster that included signing All-Star Chris Paul in December in the biggest trade in franchise history. In the same six-day span, Olshey signed All-Stars Caron Butler and Chauncey Billups, and re-signed DeAndre Jordan.

The Clippers finished with a 40-26 record and reached the second round of the playoffs.

Last week, the Clippers exercised their option on coach Vinny Del Negro, bringing him back for a third season.

Olshey had been with the Clippers for nine years, including stints as director of player development, assistant coach, director of player personnel, and assistant GM.

The team is searching for a replacement for Olshey, whose responsibilities will be absorbed by Roeser, head coach Vinny Del Negro and director of player personnel Gary Sacks.
