City of stars? Drake says he'll look into real estate in Cleveland
Another Canadian-born star could soon be staking out a stranglehold in Ohio.
Rapper Drake, who's close with Cleveland sports' big additions, LeBron James and Johnny Manziel, said in a recent interview that Cleveland is definitely on his radar now.
"Of course, I'm gonna go watch games in Cleveland. If not for LeBron--who I said is a brother to me, we've got three kids from Toronto on one team, plus Manziel who is part of our family and our brother. I definitely have to look into some real estate in Cleveland and spend some months of the year out there. Like I said, my teams will always forever be who they are but I will support the group who has shifted to Cleveland."
Which are Drake's teams exactly? He dispels the notion that he's a "bandwagon fan" and says that other than the Kentucky Wildcats and Toronto Raptors, he's "always supported the player and not the institution."
Back to what could be Drake's new team. Those three Canadians to whom he alludes -- Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and Tristan Thompson -- are all top five picks. Dwight Powell, a second-round pick in this year's draft whom the Cavs acquired in a trade, makes a fourth Canadian.
Drake references both Wiggins and Manziel in the lyrics of his song "Draft Day." Once Manziel became a member of the Browns, he hooked Drake up with a Browns jersey, personalized with "TOPSZN," the name of his crew, at a concert in Austin.
So, where would Drake choose to put some money down in the Cleveland area?
Word of advice: the lake is beautiful this time of year. Come basketball and football season when the lake effect snow machine kicks into gear -- not so much.
