Charlotte women's soccer signees
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte women’s soccer program will welcome six newcomers to the roster for its 20thseason in 2013. Head coach John Cullen’s incoming group was originally announced in February (here) but since the first unveiling, the class has attained more success and added more accomplishments to their resumes. Those updates are below, listed alphabetically.
Rebecca Beatty (Mandeville, La.)
Earned a Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association first-team all-state honor in 2013, the third of her career and fourth overall … Tabbed to the all-district team her final three seasons … Led her high school to state finalist appearances in each of her final three years after it won the 2010 title … Named the coaches’ Offensive MVP … Member of club program that won the state crown from 2008-12 … Squad advanced to the regional quarterfinals in 2012.
Perri Bonner (Atlanta, Ga.)
Presented with the Golden Boot Award for most goals scored in 2013 … Tallied 87 goals during her high school career … Collected her high school’s Most Valuable Offensive Player Award each of her four years … Served as a high school team co-captain her final two years … Member of the USL Super Y League, ODP selection roster in 2011-12 … Played at the 2010-12 Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Fla.
Anna Dedmon (Shelby, N.C.)
Voted to the 2013 North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association all-state first team … Garnered Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year accolades as a senior … Tabbed to the all-league squad for the fourth-straight time … Netted 34 goals and added 12 assists for 80 points her final season … Capped her remarkable four-year career with 152 goals and 42 points for 346 points … Finalist for NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com National High School Player of the Week for March 20, 2013 … Member of her high school team that reached the third round of the 2013 state tournament … Program finished her four years with a 62-17-4 record, the winningest team in school history.
Shelby Hicks (Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Selected as the PAC-6 Most Valuable Defensive Player … Tabbed to the PAC-6 all-conference team … Club team ranked as high as fifth in the state and 34th nationally … Graduated as an AP scholar and in the Top 20 percent of her high school class.
Ari Reilley (Woodstown, N.J.)
Playing career ended in the fall … Received the Woodstown Masonic Lodge Award Scholarship for academic achievement … Concluded her senior year with an A average in all her classes.
Kaitlin Walker (Apex, N.C.)
Chosen as the 2013 all-region player … Selected as a Tri-9 all-conference performer … Member of the 2012 SYL national finalists and 2011 region championship squads … Competed in the 2012 State Cup title game and 2011 Final Four … Club team ranked as high as fifth in the state and 34th nationally … Served as the 2012-13 captain for her high school and club programs … Maintained a 3.75 GPA throughout her high school career.
The six newcomers will join the rest of their 49ers teammates for the start of fall practice in August. Charlotte will open the 2013 campaign and return to Conference USA this fall with an August 17 exhibition at UNC Asheville before beginning the regular season and a three-match homestand at 7 p.m. August 23 against Liberty.
