Chargers sign LB Johnson; Sperry returns

The San Diego Chargers have agreed to a new four-year contract with former Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Jarret Johnson.
 
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound linebacker played the first nine seasons of his career on the powerful Baltimore defense. He played in a Ravens' franchise-record 129 consecutive regular-season games and has started 89 in a row, including playoffs. Baltimore selected him in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
 
Johnson tallied 56 tackles and 2.5 sacks for the Ravens in 2011 and his career totals include 523 tackles, 20 sacks, three interceptions and nine forced fumbles. He tallied a career-high 94 tackles in 2007, his first season as a full-time starter, and a career-best six sacks in 2009. Johnson has played in 11 career playoff games, including the 2011 AFC Championship Game, which the Ravens lost to New England on a late fourth-quarter field goal. His playoff totals include 27 tackles and a sack.
 
Johnson played under Baltimore defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano from 2008-11. He is the brother of Chargers'defensive coordinator John Pagano.
 
The Chargers have also agreed to terms on a one-year contract with tight end Kory Sperry. Sperry played in all 16 games for the Chargers in 2011 and made four starts.
