Chargers hire ex-Packers GM Wolf as consultant
San Diego Chargers president Dean Spanos has turned to the architect of the Green Bay Packers' 1990s turnaround to help him hire a new general manager and coach.
Ron Wolf, 71, who retired as the Packers' general manager in June 2001, will be a consultant in the team's effort to replace A.J. Smith and Norv Turner, who were fired Monday.
Spanos and Wolf will be joined by Spanos' son, John, the Chargers' director of college scouting, and Ed McGuire, the team's contract negotiator, in conducting interviews. The new general manager will assist in interviews for the new coach, Spanos said.
