Cavs send newly-acquired guard Bogans to Sixers

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Two days after obtaining guard Keith Bogans for four players, the Cavaliers shipped him off to the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced Saturday.

The deal will send Bogans and a 2018 second-round pick to the Sixers, creating a $5.3 million trade exception for the Cavs. Because of the timing of the trade, the Cavs have one year to use the exception or simply let it expire.

Trade exceptions can be used as money to help facilitate deals, as opposed to an actual player's salary. It cannot, however, be used along with a player in a trade.

Bogans, an 11-year veteran, never reported to Cleveland for media day Friday, leading to the theory he was never part of the Cavs' plans. The Cavs obtained him from the Boston Celtics in exchange for John Lucas, Malcolm Thomas, Erik Murphy and rookie Dwight Powell. The Cavs also sent a 2016 and 2017 second-round draft pick to the Celtics.

In return for all these trades, the Cavs also received two second-round picks from the Celtics and another from the Sixers, but all the picks are heavily protected and are likely to never be used.

The Cavs' training camp roster now stands at 15 players. They could potentially add another player or two within the next week.

Bogans, 34, averaged 2.0 points in six games with the Celtics last season.
