Cavaliers sign Dellavedova to non-guaranteed deal

CLEVELAND -- Matthew Dellavedova impressed the Cavaliers during his stint in the Las Vegas Summer League, and the Cavs are giving him a shot to stick around at least a little longer.

That’s because the Cavs have agreed to a contract with the 6-foot-4 point guard, league sources confirmed to FOX Sports Ohio on Thursday.

The contract is non-guaranteed and has been described as an incentivized training-camp invite deal.

Dellavedova is a native of Australia and went undrafted out of St. Mary’s (Calif.) College this past summer. He joined the Cavs summer team in July, where he averaged 2.8 points and 3.0 assists in five games.

Mostly, he ran the team in a manner that impressed Mike Brown and the rest of the Cavs’ coaching staff.

“I talked to Coach Brown a bit," Dellavedova recently told the Melbourne Herald Sun. “He told me what he was looking for, that third point guard to push (Kyrie) Irving and (Dion) Waiters in practice.”

Dellavedova is St. Mary’s all-time leader in scoring, assists, games played and free-throw percentage. He was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year following his junior season (2011-12).

Along with Dellavedova, newcomers to the Cavs’ training camp roster include veterans Andrew Bynum and Jarrett Jack, as well as rookies Anthony Bennett, Sergey Karasev and Carrick Felix.

The Cavs are expected to stage their annual media day Sept. 30, with camp to begin the following day.

B-W to host scrimmage

Baldwin-Wallace University will host this year’s Cavs “Wine & Gold” intra-squad scrimmage, team officials said Thursday.

The event is scheduled for Oct. 5 and will be exclusive to current military members and their families -- although all fans can watch a live stream of the game on the Cavs' official website.

“The Wine & Gold Scrimmage is an important preseason tradition for our team, and our entire organization is looking forward to sharing it with our local troops this season,” Cavs general manager Chris Grant said in a written release.

Baldwin-Wallace, located in Berea, recently renovated Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium, where the scrimmage will take place.
