Cardinals rookie OLB Okafor out for season

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Arizona Cardinals' injury woes at outside linebacker just got worse, with rookie Alex Okafor out for the season with a torn bicep.

Okafor confirmed reports of the injury via Twitter.

Arizona lost its starting outside linebackers Sam Acho (broken leg) and Lorenzo Alexander (foot injury) in Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints. They were placed on season-ending injury reserve on Monday.

Okafor, a fourth-round draft pick out of Texas, said in his tweet that he would be back next year "stronger than ever."

Okafor was placed on injured reserve on Thursday, and the Cardinals elevated linebacker Kenny Demens from their practice squad to the 53-man active roster.

Demens (6-1, 242) spent the preseason with the Cardinals after signing as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Michigan.

The team signed linebacker Vic So'oto on  Tuesday to shore up the position.

In another move, the Cardinals signed wide receiver Devon Wylie to its practice squad. Wylie (5-9, 187) spent the 2012 season with the Kansas City Chiefs after being drafted in the fourth round out of Fresno State. He was released by the Chiefs on Sept. 1.

The Cardinals are practicing in Bradenton, Fla., this week in preparation for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
