Cardinals put Doucet on injured reserve
The Arizona Cardinals placed wide receiver Early Doucet on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday with a hip injury.
Doucet finishes the season with 26 catches for 291 yards and a touchdown. He had just four catches in his last three games, including one in the loss to Carolina on Sunday, when he left early with what the team called a hip flexor.
Doucet also missed five games earlier in the season with a concussion.
To fill his spot on the roster, the team promoted linebacker Curtis Gatewood from the practice squad.
Gatewood (6-foot-3, 250 pounds) has spent 12 weeks on the Cardinals practice squad this season after joining the team on Sept. 6 following preseason and training camp with the Washington Redskins. He has appeared in six career games -- all with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008 -- and collected two tackles on defense and four special-teams stops. He originally entered the NFL with the Redskins as a rookie free agent from Vanderbilt in 2008.
Also on Wednesday, the Cardinals signed linebacker Brandon Sharpe to the practice squad.
Sharpe (6-2, 254 pounds) entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New Orleans Saints out of Texas Tech in April. He was released by the Saints and signed by the Cowboys on July 25. He spent preseason with the Cowboys until being released on Sept. 4.
