Cardinals place Matt Adams on 15-day disabled list

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that first baseman Matt Adams has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 22, with a strained right oblique.  The team has purchased infielder Jermaine Curtis from Memphis (AAA) to take Adam’s spot on the 25-man active roster.

Curtis, 25, was batting .292 (14-for-48) in 17 games for Memphis this season, leading the team with 17 RBI.  He was batting .533 (8-for-15) with 15 RBI with runners in scoring position for the triple-A Redbirds.

The right-handed hitting Curtis was drafted by the Cardinals in 2008 (5th round) out of UCLA.  He led the Texas League (AA) in on-base pct. (.416) last season and was 2nd in batting (.313) while earning All-Star honors at Springfield.

Adams was batting .542 with 3 home runs and a 1.042 slugging pct. in eight games to begin the season with St. Louis.

Curtis will join the Cardinals for tonight’s series opener against the Pirates and will wear uniform # 55.
