Cardinals option Gallegos to Memphis, recall Drew Robinson
Giovanny Gallegos, who was able to pitch in his native Mexico over the weekend, has been optioned to the Memphis Redbirds.
Taking Gallegos' spot on the Cardinals' active roster is infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson, who was recalled from the club's Triple-A affiliate.
Gallegos earned his first major league win against the Dodgers last Thursday, then pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief in St. Louis' win over Cincinnati on Sunday in Monterrey, Mexico. In so doing, the right-hander became the first Mexican-born Cardinals player to appear in a regular-season game played in his homeland.
Gallegos had been recalled from Memphis by St. Louis on April 7.
Robinson opened the season on the St. Louis roster and went 0 for 3 in three games before being optioned to Memphis on April 4. He batted .229 (8 for 35) with two RBIs in nine games for Memphis.
In addition, the Cardinals returned infielder/outfielder Yairo Muñoz, the team’s 26th man in the Mexico Series, to Memphis following Sunday's game.
