Calvin Johnson returns to practice, listed as limited

Receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice Thursday for the Detroit Lions, but only on a limited basis.

Johnson told reporters afterward that he's feeling "good," but he wouldn't answer specific questions about his ailing right knee that forced him to miss last Sunday's game at Green Bay.

"I'm feeling better," Johnson said. "We'll just leave it at that."

Coach Jim Schwartz reiterated that Johnson's status for Sunday against Cleveland likely will be a gameday decision.

Johnson said it was tough to miss such a big divisional game against the Packers, but added that "it's for the better."

SCHEFFLER UPDATE
Tight end Tony Scheffler remains out of practice because of concussion symptoms that weren't apparent until two days after taking a blow to the head from Green Bay safety Jerron McMillan, who got fined $15,000 for the illegal hit.

"Even Monday, he (Scheffler) wasn’t having headaches and some of those other symptoms that we see," Schwartz told reporters. "When we came back to work on Tuesday, we saw it.

"We have seen that from other people in the past. Every one of them is different. That’s why it’s so hard to diagnose.

"It’s such a hard situation to put timetables on guys coming back and stuff like that. Anytime you get a concussion, whether it’s your first, third, you bounce back quickly or you don’t, it’s always a concern."

It's an even bigger concern when players have suffered multiple concussions. This is reportedly the third for Scheffler, who is in his eighth season in the NFL.

Scheffler, 30, played in high school at Chelsea (Mich.) and in college at Western Michigan. His role in the Lions' offense has been diminished this season. He had seven catches for 82 yards in the first five games.
