Cain, Davis named top Royals player, pitcher of the month

The Kansas City Royals announced today that center fielder Lorenzo Cain has been named the Royals Majestic Player of the Month for July, while right-handed pitcher Wade Davis has been named the club's Pitcher of the Month.

The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote. The pitcher is selected in a vote by local media.

Cain hit .367 in July with eight doubles, two triples, five homers and an American League-best 22 runs. He ranked third in the AL with a .667 slugging percentage and was seventh in batting average. He was named the league's Player of the Week on July 20, after going 7 for 17 with two homers in a four-game series against the White Sox. Cain also recorded two hits, including an RBI double, in the All-Star Game July 14 in Cincinnati.

Davis earned the monthly honor for the second time this season. He recorded a team-best four victories (4-0) in July, which also tied for the major league lead. He allowed just one run in 12 July appearances for a 0.84 ERA while holding opponents to a .179 batting average with one walk and 12 strikeouts. He didn't allow a hit over his last six July appearances, spanning 4 2/3 innings.
