Bye week a good one for ASU's recruiting
Oct. 8, 2012
Arizona State's success this season has continued off the field, as the Sun Devils add three commitments over the weekend to their 2013 recruiting class.
In a span of 24 hours, ASU earned commitments from Rancho Cucamongo brothers and linebackers Alani and Viliami Latu of Rancho Cucamongo, Calif., as well as safety Tre Flowers of Converse, Texas.
Flowers is rated by FOX Sports Next as a three-star recruit and the No. 30 safety in the country, and while the Latu brothers have not yet been ranked, both had offers from multiple Pac-12 schools, including Arizona, at the time of their commitment. Viliami Latu, listed at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, is considered an inside linebacker, whereas Alani Latu is 6-foot-1, 210 pounds and is expected to play outside linebacker.
The Latu brothers are cousins of former ASU defensive lineman Paul Unga, which led to reciprocal interest. They committed during a visit from ASU recruiting coordinator Joe Lorig. According to FOX Sports Next, the brothers are considering taking a Mormon mission prior to entering school but have not yet made a final determination.
Flowers, listed at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, had offers from Utah, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Purdue, Mississippi State and others.
The three commitments give ASU 15 players in its 2013 class, with the Latu brothers the second and third linebackers and Flowers the first safety. FOX Sports Next ranks ASU's class 46th in the country, although that ranking has not been updated since Flowers' commitment.
