Bryan Price hired as Reds manager

Fox Sport's Ken Rosenthal was the first to break the news last night and the Reds have officially confirmed on their website today, that Bryan Price has been hired as the Reds next manager.

Price, 51, has been the Reds' pitching coach for the past four seasons. During this time, the Reds have seen their pitching staff rank as one of the best in baseball.

Although rumors swirled that the Reds might go with a Hall of Famer such as Barry Larkin or a former player like Paul O'Neill, they are going with their in-house choice of Price. The Reds are having a press conference today at 3:00 P.M. introducing Price as the new manager.
Price will inherit a Reds team that went 90-72, although not quite reaching expectations of winning another National League Central Division title.

Price was suspected from the beginning as the frontrunner to take over for Dusty Baker.

The Reds fired Baker after a disappointing ending to the 2013 season, with the Reds losing their final five games of the season, including the NL wild-card game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Price first joined a major league coaching staff in 2001 as pitching coach of the Mariners, a job he held for six seasons. He then was pitching coach with the Diamondbacks from 2007 until May 2009, when he resigned. He joined the Reds after that season.

He pitched five minor league seasons in the 1980s, in the Angels and Mariners organizations, and climbed as high as Triple-A.
