Browns name Johnny Manziel starter for rest of season

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- The Browns will go with quarterback Johnny Manziel as their starter for the remainder of this season.

The team made the announcement on Tuesday before practice. Coach Mike Pettine strongly hinted to the possibility of sticking with Manziel after the second-year QB passed for 372 yards in a loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Manziel takes over for Josh McCown, who went 1-6 as a starter and missed the last two games with injured ribs.

With the Browns (2-8) riding a five-game losing streak, it's time for the team to get a longer look at Manziel, the talented and troubled 2014 first-round pick who has shown signs of progress.

The Browns have a bye this week before hosting Baltimore on Nov. 30 in a prime-time matchup certain to draw more TV viewers with Manziel starting.
